Run the Country was founded in 2005 by Edward Chapman with the aim of spreading the joy of running amongst as many people as possible; particularly the pleasures of off-road running and foreign travel. Edward, our route master, has spent many happy years running in the countryside of Kent, Sussex and Surrey and more recently in Devon & Cornwall. Initially he got hopelessly lost but he has now developed a sixth sense for great runs and is happy to be sent all over the country to map out fantastic routes for others to follow.

Run the Country in association with selected partners is also able to provide UK and overseas based training events as well as travel and accommodation for the more unusual running events. The Comrades marathon in South Africa is our favourite event but we are also keen to support newer events such as the Peace Marathon in Rwanda.

Run the Country appreciates that everything we do has an impact on others, the environment or both. We therefore try to offer runners the opportunity to lessen the negative impacts and strengthen the positive ones by:

• Supporting Climate Care and offering runners who travel the chance to off-set their carbon emissions. You can visit their website via our links page.

• Encouraging runners to observe the Country Code and report any footpath or other problems to us or the Ramblers Association. You can access their website via our links page.

• Supporting the charity Comrades of Children Overseas which helps children in developing countries. We encourage runners to raise sponsorship for their work.

• Supporting TUKAE a Cornwall based charity that operates in a remote rural area of Tanzania providing the community there with much needed support in tackling the problems they face We encourage runners to make a regular commitment to their work.
